Afraid of the Light

September 11

So many people talk about being afraid of the dark, but there are many more afraid of the light than you would think.

Creativity opens itself up to the wonder of what is inside us, from the inner landscapes that we are, to the outer landscapes we find ourselves in. Either way, the light enters.

The studio is a meeting place, a place of focused intention and the unfolding of a sacred practice for us.
We allow the opening to unfold itself. We do not demand to know it before it is known.

Does that make sense?
To ask for the details of something before there are details to be given, is to be afraid of the dark, the unknown, the void.

Yet we live inside a space of dark, a void, star lit, but still a huge vast space around us. To create inside of that space, that darkness, that void, is as vast as it is. Limitless.

Well lit. We are well lit inside. Look around you, we have streetlamps, overhead lighting, bedside reading lights, and of course, the beauty of the stars. We are well lit.

Art is a lighting. Color, line, shape, and texture, all carry light within them, as well as letters and numbers, if you can see that closely.

When something gathers you to itself, is it polarity, or is it light? Are you a pole to something, or are you you?

Canvas and paint, are they simply two opposites next to each other, or are they being themselves, and if they are being themselves, why are they together? What intention has them where they are?

Available. We make ourselves available to the meeting of what is being, and from that we allow the unfolding through our desire to see. Dig deep enough and you will see your own bones, you will know the morrow of who you are, and from that you can paint and write with the color within you.

Dark is what you wad up and throw away of yourself. People are not afraid of the dark, they are afraid of the light.

Grab two crayons and color on a piece of paper. If the two colors are simply being on the paper, good. If they are in a beauty contest, i.e. they look good together or they don't look good together, then you have the color outside of yourself trying to decide between yes and no, good or bad, right or wrong, hot or cold.

Art isn't about proving itself, you being one pole and it the other. Though the market makes a living on just that, rather art is a way of being in this world from the inside out.

Hope your day finds you living from the inside out.
